Accessibility

Keyboard support, focus, reduced motion, and checks that keep Studio Arcana usable for every visitor.

Studio Arcana aims for WCAG-friendly defaults so every client can book and shop: a skip link to main content, semantic landmarks, visible focus rings, and live updates when the cart changes. Before/after sliders and modals are keyboard-friendly.

What the theme already does

  • Skip link to #MainContent and clear page landmarks.
  • Visible focus styles tied to the theme focus ring token.
  • Modals (newsletter, lightboxes, portfolio, quick view, size chart) keep focus inside and restore it to the control that opened them; Escape dismisses.
  • Quick view closes after a successful add to cart so focus is not trapped in a closed dialog.
  • Collection filter drawers trap Tab focus, close on Escape, and restore focus to the Filters button.
  • Mobile menu parents with children expose a real link to the parent page plus a disclosure for the submenu.
  • Portfolio gallery On scroll progressive load falls back to a Load more button when OS reduced motion is on.
  • Cart updates announce changes for assistive technology.
  • Animations respect the storefront Animations off toggle and OS reduced motion (including dialog open/close).

Checks before you publish

  1. Tab through header, search, mega menu, Book CTAs, filters, quick view, and cart drawer — focus never disappears.
  2. On a phone collection page, open Filters, Tab through the panel, press Escape, and confirm focus returns to the Filters button.
  3. Open and close dialogs with keyboard only; confirm the page behind is not interactive while open.
  4. Zoom to 200% on a product and cart page — content remains usable.
  5. Turn Animations off and confirm decorative motion stops.
  6. Confirm every image you added has meaningful alt text.
  7. Manually spot-check account login, orders, addresses, activation, and password reset when customer accounts are enabled (authenticated flows are not fully automated).

Broader accessibility coverage ahead

Upcoming work expands automated and manual coverage across account, gift card, service, specialist, age gate, localization, forced colors, and RTL — so marketplace-ready launches stay accessible as you turn on more features. Pair this guide with Performance and the Full launch checklist.

How to check it worked

  • You can complete Book and Add to cart using only the keyboard.
  • Screen-reader users hear useful names for primary buttons and form errors.
  • Ask your implementer for an accessibility pass (for example axe + Lighthouse) on home, product, and cart after publish.
