Privacy and consent

Studio Arcana is built so marketing and analytics scripts wait for visitor consent. When you finish this guide, GTM and similar tags only load after Shopify’s Customer Privacy API allows tracking, and age-sensitive surfaces use a clear gate.

Shopify Customer Privacy

1. In Shopify Admin, enable the cookie banner / customer privacy settings that match your markets.
2. Add your GTM container ID under Theme settings → Analytics (format GTM-XXXXXXX).
3. Preview the storefront: decline tracking and confirm marketing tags do not fire; accept and confirm they do.
4. Keep forms, newsletter popups, and booking embeds aligned with the same consent policy.

Age gate and content warnings

• Use Theme settings → Age gate for studios that need age confirmation or a content warning (common for tattoo).
• Limit the gate to the templates you need so staff can still edit in the Theme Editor without the overlay blocking work.
• Change the consent cookie key only when you need returning visitors to see the prompt again.

Service consent on product pages

For services that need a prep or safety acknowledgement, use the consent notice on the service product template and tag products with requires_consent when a checkbox must be checked before Book or Add to cart.

Stronger privacy defaults ahead

Upcoming storefront improvements keep third-party embeds, marketing pixels, and video players on privacy-safe defaults — loading only after consent and never blocking the core booking or cart path when tracking is declined.

How to check it worked

• With tracking declined, the store still loads, Books, and checks out.
• With tracking accepted, your GTM container loads once.
• Age gate appears on the templates you listed and remembers acceptance for the cookie lifetime.
